Prices going up constantly. It’s great if you own commodities I suppose. What about if you just have a few bucks in your pocket? Is your change worth less as the dollar falls lower against the other major currencies? Your coffee costs more that’s for sure. Gasoline is creeping up too. Of course I’m not going to argue that its because of the falling dollar that coffee prices have risen over 40% this year. Put the blame for that on those bubble boys that push hedge funds, pensions funds, and a lot of other “investment dollars”. Coffee has been a good play. Except if you’re a coffee roaster or importer.
At Humboldt Bay Coffee we have been resisting raising our prices because we know that the market cannot sustain these high prices in the face of a mega-crop from Brazil. OK, we added a slight surcharge to cover our replacement costs, but we’re riding out the bad news because we think better days are coming. We hope.
Finally we should be taking delivery on a new coffee from PANAMA. The quality should be “Coffee of the Year” or close to it. You might want to check it out. You’ll have to call for a bag, as we don’t have a Panama button on the website, at least not yet.
